Our son has all of the words from Hamilton memorized. He LOVES Hamilton. And I love that he loves history, musicals, and something out of the box.
Early this year it was announced that Hamilton would come to Arizona in another year or so….however, I was unable to get tickets. So I began searching for other places to see Hamilton (because I’m not the kind of girl that gives up easily). Chicago was too far and too expensive just to see a show. So was New York.
San Francisco was better, but then I found out it was coming to Los Angeles….a 1 hour plane ride or a 6 hour drive. Easy. But still more expensive than seeing it locally.
So we made our son a deal. If he could get a 3.5GPA the 2nd semester of his new, challenging school, then I would take him to see Hamilton in LA for his birthday. (He didn’t know I already purchased tickets as soon as they went on sale. (Good thing too because they sold out within the hour!)
Because we are trying to give presents that are experiences instead of things, he was perfectly fine that spending the day in LA was his present.
We started off at brunch. Then went the La Brea Tar Pits. Followed by the LA County Museum of Art. Then walked around Hollywood Blvd. Wandered into a farmers market and found delicious street food for lunch. We saw Hamilton. Met some of the cast from Hamilton (the only time I could get a photo of him smiling!). Followed by the Griffith Observatory. And then dinner at a cool British pub on Sunset Blvd. It was quite the day!
Happy 14th Birthday Ryan!
